The 89th Academy Awards pays tribute to late Om Puri

The much awaited Academy Awards, which took place today morning, was full of excitement, surprises and smiles galore. While Moonlight was adjudged as the ‘Best Picture’, Casey Affleck bagged the ‘Best Actor’ award for his stellar performance in Manchester by the Sea. On the other hand, Emma Stone bagged the ‘Best Actress’ award for her memorable performance in the most talked about Hollywood flick La La Land. Meanwhile, Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis bagged the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ awards for their roles in Moonlight and Fences respectively.

Amongst all the Hollywood names who bagged the most prestigious Academy awards, one also saw the Academy awards condoling the death of the Bollywood veteran actor Om Puri. The Academy awards, in one of their segments, paid rich tributes to all the lost legendary actors who passed away in the 2016. It was here, in the ‘Memoriam’ segment, Bollywood’s very own (late) Om Puri’s name was included. The late Om Puri got an extremely heartfelt musical tribute by Grammy and Tony-nominated singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles. The other names who were in the list of the departed ones included Prince, Carrie Fisher, Garry Marshall, Patty Duke, Gene Wilder, Michael Cimino, Anton Yelchin, Mary Tyler Moore, John Hurt and Curtis Hanson.

Readers may know that, besides Bollywood, the late Om Puri had been a part of Hollywood projects like City Of Joy, Wolf, The Ghost And The Darkness and Charlie Wilson's War, wherein he played the memorable role of General Zia-ul-Haq.
